Flexibility Makes Us Better at Doing Our Job

At Conference Manager, well-being is more than a priority - it’s part of the culture. For Jimmy and Rick, it’s a place where both body and mind feel at home, with strong teamwork, open communication, and a genuine sense of belonging.

A Place Where Both Body and Mind Feel at Home

There’s something about this place – I just feel at ease in my body here.”

That’s how Jimmy puts it – clear, simple, and sincere. Since spring 2024, he’s been part of Conference Manager as a database administrator, and he goes on to explain:

“This is a safe space. A place where my social needs are met, and where I feel both physically and mentally at ease.

There’s no doubt that the atmosphere and the culture are the big thing here,” adds Rick, who is originally from the Netherlands and has lived in Denmark since 2021. “It’s the foundation everything else rests on – and it goes far beyond foosball tables and Friday bars, as it also includes social activities outside the office.

That said, the foosball table does play a role – not least as the scene of some fierce matches for the team trophy proudly displayed beside it. As Rick and Jimmy can confirm, a bit of friendly competition adds to the good energy.

A Warm Welcome From the Start

Both Jimmy and Rick felt welcomed from day one.

Already when I first walked through the door,” says Rick – it was for his job interview – “I could feel this was the right place for me. There was interest and openness from everyone I met – and it was obvious that people weren’t just here to earn a pay check.

Unlike Rick, who has worked at other companies before, Jimmy joined Conference Manager straight out of the IT University.

It can be a big transition to go from a student environment to a professional one – and that was something my manager was clearly aware of. We had several conversations where this life shift was the main focus – and I got some great advice. It made me feel safe. Really safe.

Even today, now that both Jimmy and Rick are well-settled in their roles, well-being remains a top priority.

It’s something we talk about with our manager at least once a week,” they both explain.

Daily Sparring and Room for Impact

Jimmy and Rick both work in the development department – a young team where most colleagues are in their twenties and where few have been with the company for very long.

But what one person doesn’t know, someone else does,” Jimmy says, adding: “We spar a lot and share input freely. There’s a great atmosphere of collaboration.

What also makes the workday really motivating,” Rick continues, “is that we, as developers, are encouraged to suggest new features. Leadership is genuinely curious about our ideas and where we think the product should go next.”

Jimmy agrees, adding that new development always takes the company’s needs into account – but also the individual’s needs.

The question is: What do I need to work on to grow the most – both personally and professionally? That’s something they consider, too. So really – what’s not to like?

Meaningful Breaks

For Rick, being able to take meaningful breaks is also important. That’s why he values the daily walks in the nearby forest with his team.

It’s an incredible privilege,” he says. “We’ve talked through so many things – personal and professional – during those walks.

Fresh air for the brain – in the most literal sense,” Jimmy adds. “It helps us focus, and it lifts the quality of the work we do.

Advice for New Teammates: Get Involved and Stay Curious

Rick and Jimmy are both looking forward to welcoming new colleagues – and they’re in no doubt about the advice they’d give them.

Take part in the social life of the company,” says Jimmy. “It gives you so much – on every level. Thanks to the culture here, I’ve actually become better at my job.

I completely agree with Jimmy,” Rick adds. “Taking part in social activities – whether during work hours or at one of the monthly events – can really enrich your experience. It’s a great way to connect, and there’s always room to engage in your own way.
